3 charged in Hamburg burglary spree

Hamburg police have charged three people in a string of store burglaries.

James Trala Jr., 29, Robert Hillyard, 37, and Brittnie Clement, 24, all of Buffalo, were charged with burglary, criminal mischief and larceny for the three Hamburg burglaries, Hamburg police said.

Trala and Clement are in custody, while Hillyard is still at large.

The three are suspected of breaking into the Big Tree Trading Co. on St. Francis Drive on Nov. 28, the Bayview Deli on Bayview Road on Nov. 29 and the Kwik Fill gas station at 3326 Lakeshore Road on Dec. 4, Hamburg police said.

The accused thieves used the same method in each of their crimes, according to investigators. Surveillance video showed a vehicle would pull up to the business, one person would throw a rock through the glass door and one or two others would then enter the store and jump behind the counter. They took items including cigarettes, lottery tickets and the cash drawer, police said.

In these three cases, the burglars were in and out in about 2 minutes. Investigators believe the thefts were drug-related.

Trala and Clement were being held in the Erie County Holding Center pending arraignment.
