Bring a toy to homebrews competition

The Sultans of Swig homebrew club is hosting the second annual Dears Beers and Cheers Homebrew Competition to benefit the Matt Urban Center’s Hope House, a homeless shelter for women and children. Local homebrewers are competing by donating a keg of their beer and pouring samples for the attendees.
Tickets are $20 presale, $25 at the door. People are encouraged to bring an unwrapped children’s gift. At last year's inaugural event, more than $2,700 was raised and over 75 toys collected.
Attendees will vote for their favorite beer, which will be awarded the “People’s Choice” award. Trained beer judges (via the Beer Judge Certification Program) will judge the beers to pick a “Best in Show.” Tickets are available at sultansofswig.com.
A holiday with Queen City Roller Girls

The Queen City Roller Girls will celebrate the holidays with a Christmas Beer Bash at Pizza Plant. There will be flight specials, 50/50 raffles,and a number of special beers on ta, including Thirsty Dog 12 Days of Christmas, Mikkeller Hoppy Lovin’ Christmas, Samichlaus Classic Bier, Great Lakes Christmas Ale, Anchor Christmas Ale and Kasteel Barista Chocolate Quad.

CBW tap takeover
8 to 10 p.m. Dec. 16 at Crabapples Micro Brew Pub, 3298 Genesee St., (895-2911)
If you’ve been to Crabapples Micro Brew Pub, then you’re familiar with its daunting array of micro and imported beer taps. On Dec. 16, some of these taps will be taken over by Community Beer Works. Beers on tap will include Joint Venture (sour ale produced in collaboration with Three Heads Brewing from Rochester, 5 percent ABV), That IPA (IPA, 5 percent ABV), Interrobang (IPA, 7.2 percent ABV), The IPA (IPA, .2 percent ABV) and Oh Snap (stout with cinnamon and ginger, 5.4 percent ABV). The takeover will also include a special cask of CBW’s Lethophobia stout (5.5 percent ABV).
Ithaca Beer takes over Goodbar

Not resting after the annual cask ale festival earlier this month, Mr. Goodbar is hosting another cask ale event. Featuring only beers from Ithaca Beer Company, the event kicks off at noon and will continue into the night or until casks kick. Beers will be available by the pint or half pint. Each cask features a different beer with a unique ingredient added.
• Flower Power IPA (7.5 percent ABV) was made with raspberries.
• Creeker Double IPA (8.5 percent ABV) with mangoes.
• Super Stout (4.9 percent ABV) with vanilla.
• Nut Brown (5.4 percent ABV) with cocoa nibs.
