Probe underway after theft of cellphones during basketball tournament

PORTER -  Police and school officials are investigating the recent theft of several cellphones during a weekend basketball tournament at Lewiston-Porter High School.

Four members of the school’s basketball team reported phones stolen from  gym bags  in lockers at the Creek Road school on Dec. 2. One player also reported the theft of a wallet containing credit cards and $40 in cash.

Teams from three visiting schools were in the gym at the time of the thefts, Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies said. Surveillance videos are being examined.
