Two Western New Yorkers continue to play roles in USA Hockey's women's program.
Emily Pfalzer (Getzville, Nichols) was named the USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp, scheduled for Dec. 12-15 at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich.
The camp will be used to evaluate and select the U.S. Women's Select Team for a pair of games against Canada Dec. 17 (Plymouth, Mich.) and Dec. 19 (Sarnia, Ontario). It will also help with the selection for the U.S. National team roster for the IIHF Women's World Championships, scheduled for March 31-April 7 at USA Hockey Arena.
Pfalzer, captain of the Buffalo Beauts in the National Women's Hockey League, was named the U.S. Player of the Game after scoring a goal in the Four Nations Cup championship, a 5-3 win over Team Canada. Pfalzer, a defender, had a goal and an assist with a plus-one rating in the four-game tournament.
Meanwhile Maureen Murphy was named to the 22-player roster for the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team, which will compete at the IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship, set for Jan. 7-14 in theCzech Republic. The event is the women's equivalent to the men's World Junior Championship.
Murphy, a native of Buffalo who plays for Shattuck-St. Mary's in Minnesota, scored two goals for Team USA in a two-game Under-18 Series with Canada earlier this year.
