Niagara started its college hockey weekend series with the Air Force Academy with a loss on Friday night. The Falcons took a 2-1 decision in Colorado Springs, Col.
Tanner Lomsnes put the Purple Eagles on the scoreboard at 12:21 of the first period with his second goal. It came on the power play.
The 1-0 Niagara lead held up for almost 40 minutes. Then Jordan Himley tied the game with 8:45 gone in the third period. A little more than two minutes later, Evan Feno tallied for the Falcons to provide the winning margin. The Purple Eagles fell to 2-12-3 with the loss, and 2-7-2 in Atlantic Hockey. Air Force moved to 8-6-3, 5-3-1 in the conference.
Niagara finished the game with 20 shots, while Air Force had 38. The Purple Eagles’ penalty-killers did a good job of keeping this one close, as the Falcons went 0 for 4 with the extra man.
The teams will play again on Saturday night (7:05 p.m., Radio 1340 AM).
