Fire drives three from Amherst home; $40,000 in damages

A fire that began near the front door of the house at 35 Hidden Pond Lane in Amherst Thursday night was quickly extinguished but caused $40,000 damage, according to Chief Paul Griebner of the Snyder Fire Department.

The fire was called in about 7  p.m. Thursday and was out within about 15 minutes but the smoke caused prompted  the three adult occupants to contact their insurance company for temporary housing, Griebner said.

Damage to the structure was listed at $20,000 and to contents at $20,000.  Hidden Pond Lane is off Getzville Road between Main Street and Sheridan Drive.

Griebner said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
