Sister Mary Jude (Jane Marie) Rindfuss, S.S.M.N., died suddenly at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo on Dec. 4. She was 84.
Born in Buffalo, she attended Kenmore Senior High School.
She entered the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur in August of 1949 and made her perpetual vows in August 1958.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Rosary Hill College (now Daemen College) and a Master's in Theology from Christ the King Seminary. She also studied at the University of Dayton and the Baptist Medical Center at Columbia, S.C. She obtained her New York State Certification in Nursing as well as her certification by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.
Sister Mary Jude taught at Blessed Sacrament, St. Paul and St. Andrew schools in Kenmore, St. Mary and St. John schools in Lockport, and St. Jude School in Sumter, S.C. She also worked as a secretary at Mt. St. Mary Academy in Kenmore.
Later, Sister Mary Jude moved into pastoral ministry in South Carolina at St. Jude Church in Sumter and St. Ann Church in Florence, as well as Annunciation Church in Buffalo. Her longest pastoral work was done at St. Paul in Kenmore where she served for sixteen years as Director of Pastoral Care.
Sister Mary Jude was a person who built her life around the needs of others and was known as a good listener.
She is survived by a brother; sister; her sisters in the Congregation of St. Mary of Namur; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Thursday at the St. Mary Center Chapel.
