Another film made in the Buffalo area is gaining the national spotlight.
"Mercy," filmed here by writer and director Chris Sparling, recently debuted on Netflix through its streaming service. It premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival earlier this year and Netflix picked up its distribution rights, showing it under the banner "A Netflix Original Film."
In the taut thriller, four estranged stepbrothers return to their secluded home to visit their dying mother. As family secrets are revealed, the farmhouse comes under attack by mysterious masked men.
The movie stars James Wolk ("Zoo"), Caitlin FitzGerald ("Masters of Sex"), Tom Lipinski ("Suits"), Dan Ziskie, Michael Godere, Michael Donovan and Constance Barron.
"Mercy" used the main farm house at Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora and a church in Colden as the two major locations when it was filmed here in the fall of 2015. Look for some startling and chilling imagery and a twist worthy of the acclaim Sparling previously received for writing the claustrophobic Ryan Reynolds thriller "Buried."
