Parents need to know about children’s issues
A Texas lawmaker introduced a bill “intended to help Texans know what is going on in their children’s lives,” sparking fear and controversy that it may present problems for some students who are keeping issues, such as being gay or being pregnant, from their parents.
What seems to have been forgotten here is that parents have been entrusted with the care and responsibility of raising and protecting their children. Schools have been entrusted with the responsibility of educating children who are not theirs. Where it is appropriate, schools must protect children (from intruders, bullying, etc.), but in personal life matters, parents are the ones with the responsibility to oversee and protect. While some parents may abuse or misuse their responsibility, this should not take that right away from all parents.
Let’s give parents the right to know all of what is going on in their children’s lives, and be able to help their children as they are able.
