It takes a whole school to celebrate being a national Blue Ribbon School, and the school turned out Thursday afternoon when state Assemblyman Michael Kearns, D-Buffalo, presented the award to Orchard Park High School Principal Jonathan Wolf.
Juniors and seniors were in the auditorium, and the rest of the students who could not fit in the auditorium watched the assembly live from their homerooms.
The high school is one of 279 public and 50 private schools across the country to receive the honor this year from the U.S. Department of Education. It's one of 20 Blue Ribbon Schools designated in New York this year.
The award is based on a school's overall academic excellence or its progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
