Homeroom Announcements: Thursday's big games & more

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Thursday

1. Girls hockey - Orchard Park/Frontier/Lake Shore vs. Monsignor Martin, 4:30 p.m. at Hamburg Nike Base

Defending WNY Federation champ Monsignor Martin (1-0) takes on Orchard Park/Frontier/Lake Shore (2-0) in an early battle of unbeatens at the Hamburg Nike Base at 4:30 p.m. FLOP has outscored opponents 12-0 in its two shutout wins, while Kaitlin Drew-Mead scored twice in Monsignor Martin's 7-2 win over Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew

The other two games on the schedule feature Williamsville (2-0) vs. Kenmore/Grand Island (1-1) at 4 p.m. and Amherst/Sweet Home/Clarence (1-1) vs. West Seneca/Hamburg/Eden (0-2) at 5:30 p.m., both at the Northtown Center.

2. Boys basketball - Tournament action

Three tournaments headline Thursday evening's lineup:

James Walker Tournament at Lew-Port
South Park vs. Hutch-Tech, 5:30 p.m.
Lew-Port vs. Lafayette, 7 p.m.
Greg Martin Tournament at Iroquois
Orchard Park vs. Kenmore East, 4:45 p.m.
Iroquois vs. Alden, 6:30 p.m.
Adam Elliott Tournament at Portville
Portville vs. Cattaraugus/Little Valley, 7:30 p.m.

Springville also hosts ECIC IV foe Tonawanda at 6:30 p.m. in the first league game of the season.

3. Boys hockey - Six WNY Federation games

Thursday's the busiest day in Fed boys hockey yet, with league openers for 10 of the 12 teams in action.

Lew-Port (1-0) vs. St. Francis, 5 p.m.
Niagara University
Grand Island (1-0) vs. West Seneca East, 7:55 p.m.
Northtown Center
Williamsville South vs. Niagara Falls, 6:30 p.m. (Olympic Rink)
Williamsville East vs. Frontier, 7 p.m. (Feature Rink)
Amherst vs. Lockport, 8:30 p.m. (Olympic Rink)
Sweet Home vs. Kenmore West, 9 p.m. (Feature Rink)

4. Girls basketball - West Seneca Tip-Off

West Seneca West and Depew square off in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. at West Seneca East after wins in the semifinals on Tuesday. The host Trojans play in the consolation game at 5 p.m. against Eden.
