Cheektowaga got a soul food option last month when Soulos Café opened on Walden Avenue.
Regina Verse has opened her first restaurant at 1238 Walden Ave., which was formerly Raw is Life Juice & Smoothie Café. It’s aimed at take-out business, with eight seats at a table and a counter.
The menu includes soul food dinners, like fried chicken ($10) and spare ribs ($13), served up with cornbread and two sides, such as macaroni and cheese and collard greens.
There’s some Puerto Rican offerings, too, such as beef or chicken and cheese pastelillos ($2.50), or served on a plate of yellow rice ($6.50). There’s Friday fish fries, and ice cream too.
There’s also smoothies ($3.85) and taco in a bag ($2.50), which is a single-serving bag of Doritos loaded with taco-seasoned ground beef, salsa, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and cheese. Soulos Café also offers weekly specials, like a chicken Alfredo lasagna offered on a recent Thursday.
“Our goal was to offer a diverse menu for a diverse neighborhood,” Verse said. “We want to cater to everybody in the neighborhood.”
The restaurant is currently open 4-8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday. Phone: 322-5870.
