SANBORN – The Niagara-Wheatfield School Board recently hired a new director of facilities to assist with the district's $18 million capital project.
Cono Sammarco Jr. was unanimously appointed as director of facilities at an annual salary of $75,000 following an extensive search by the board’s hiring committee this month, according to School Superintendent Daniel Ljiljanich.
He noted that Sammarco would be the direct liaison for the board on the capital project that was approved by voters Nov. 15 to fund repairs and renovations in every district building. The entire project is expected to take about two years to complete with the first work – roof replacement on the senior high and Edward Town Middle School – to begin next spring. The board recently sent initial applications to the state Department of Education for approval.
“He’ll work directly with the construction manager for the project, Turner Management Corp.,” Ljiljanich said. He said that Sammarco has played a similar role in previous positions he has held in the private sector.
Before coming to Niagara-Wheatfield, Sammarco was operations manager for Sodexo, a health care firm. In addition, he also served as vice president of facilities and transportation for Aspire Family Dental, managing 12 buildings, Ljiljanich noted.
