Fireworks and light show coming to Niagara Falls this week

If you're looking for your latest Instagram post or selfie opportunity, you might want to look across the border.

Niagara Parks is unveiling its new Illumination LED light display Thursday evening – promising new, brighter, more energy-efficient Xenon lights with 1,800 color combinations on the Canadian side of the falls.

This $4 million light display, paid for by the Niagara Falls Illumination Board, is the first major upgrade in almost 20 years. "Special lights are housed in the Illumination Tower, next to Queen Victoria Place; on the roof of Table Rock Centre, at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls; and deep in the Niagara Gorge, across from the American Falls," according to Niagara Parks' website.

If you're there for the party, "America's Got Talent" singer Stacey Kay will kick off the event with a concert at 5 p.m. on Dec. 1. The official lighting is scheduled for 6:10 p.m., followed by fireworks and a performance by indie/pop band Repartee.
