Sister Joan Carroll, educator and volunteer

Sister Joan Carroll, a teacher died Nov. 26 at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, Clarence following a long illness. She was 84.

Born in Buffalo, Sister entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in Sept, 1950. She pronounced her final vows in Aug. 1956. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Education from Mount St. Joseph College in 1964 and a Masters of Science in Education from University at Buffalo in 1972.

Her ministry brought her to several parish schools, plus seven years at St. Joseph School for Exceptional Children in Dunkirk. She taught 19 years at Cathedral School, now Catholic Academy of West Buffalo and 15 years in the primary department of Mount St. Joseph Academy. Prior to retiring in 2012 she assisted visitors to St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen in Buffalo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence, 4975 Strickler Road, Clarence.
