Homeroom Announcements: Monday's big games & more

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Monday

1. Boys hockey - WNY Federation league season opens

Two doubleheaders mark the first league games of the WNY Federation boys hockey season.

At HarborCenter, Canisius and Orchard Park get the games started at 6:30 p.m. Bishop Timon-St. Jude and Hamburg follow at 8:30 p.m.

Meanwhile at the Hyde Park Ice Pavilion, North Tonawanda takes on Lew-Port at 6:45 p.m. Grand Island and West Seneca West play in the nightcap at 8:45 p.m.

2. Girls hockey - Orchard Park/Frontier/Lake Shore vs. Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew, 4:30 p.m. at Riverworks

Orchard Park (1-0) came out strong with a 7-0 win over Grand Island/Kenmore in its season opener, while Lancaster sits at 0-1 with a 7-2 loss to Monsignor Martin.

3. Boys basketball - Health Sciences at Wilson, 6 p.m.

Wilson and Health Sciences open its seasons in a nonleague matchup.

The host Lakemen return eight from last year's 9-12 team, and also get a boost from Justin Daul, who missed last season with a knee injury.

Health Sciences looks like one of the top small schools in Western New York with a lot of key talent returning. Juniors Davonte Gaines and Tyronn Lott, and sophomore Kameron Briggs lead this Falcons squad that made its first sectional final appearance last season, a 52-48 loss to Fredonia.
