Betty K. Reukauf, former Orchard Park town clerk

Oct. 26, 1923 – Nov. 18, 2016

Betty K. Reukauf, who served three terms as Orchard Park town clerk, died Nov. 18 in her Orchard Park home after a short illness. She was 93.

Born in Orchard Park, the former Betty Kreitzbender was a 1941 graduate of Orchard Park High School.

In 1972, Mrs. Reukauf was appointed deputy town clerk and won election as town clerk in 1980.

Dedicated to serving the public, she often opened her home to those who needed licenses and other assistance after hours and on weekends. She retired in 1993.

She was a member of the Orchard Park Democratic Committee and served as an election inspector. She also was a member of the Erie County Town Clerks Association and Orchard Park Post 567, American Legion Auxiliary.

She was active in Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society.

A devoted Bills and Sabres fan, she also enjoyed the theater and visiting Florida.

Her husband of 61 years, Roy A., a pipefitter and head of security at the former Mobil Oil refinery on Elk Street, died in 2007.

Survivors include two sons, Craig and Daniel; two daughters, Jane Ann and Mary Beth VanLew; two sisters, Gloria Geldard and Iris Kita; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered last Wednesday in Nativity of Our Lord Church, 26 Thorn Ave., Orchard Park.
