Two teens eyed in Niagara Falls theft of tools worth $5,000

NIAGARA FALLS – Two teenagers are suspected in the theft Friday of tools worth more than $5,000 from a Tennessee Avenue garage, police said.

According to police reports, the unlocked garage was entered about 4 a.m. and several toolboxes containing Craftsman brand tools were stolen. The tools belonged to the landlord of the property, a Walmore Road resident, police said.

The tenant of the property told police that her daughter’s 16-year-old boyfriend and his 15-year-old friend had stopped over earlier in the evening to borrow tools from the garage. She told police that at about 4 a.m., she saw a pickup leave from the front of her home.

In a related report, police said that an hour earlier, the two suspects were passengers in a pickup that was damaged. A 15th Street resident driving the pickup told police he was at 18th Street and Cleveland Avenue when he heard a loud bang, and the passenger side of the rear window shattered. Damage was estimated at $200.

Investigators said it appears something in the bed of the truck shifted and struck the window.
