Collins must denounce appointment of Bannon
A few days ago, The News published an article about Steve Bannon, a leader in the white nationalist alt-right movement, who is slated to hold a key position in Donald Trump’s White House.
As editor at Breitbart News, Bannon published articles with titles like “Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive and Crazy” and “Hoist It High And Proud: The Confederate Flag Proclaims A Glorious Heritage.”
The outlet referred to conservative writer Bill Kristol as a “renegade Jew” and said Hillary Clinton’s aide, Huma Abedin, is “most likely a Saudi spy.”
I will not repeat the slurs Bannon has launched against gays and lesbians.
It should go without saying that no one with such an ugly record should be so close to the levers of power.
I have little faith in Trump, but where is Congressman Chris Collins, one of Trump’s earliest supporters? Does Collins approve of this sexism, racism and anti-Semitism? Is white nationalism something to be brushed aside? To be embraced?
Collins should speak out forcefully: A man like Bannon has no place in the White House.
