The National Lacrosse League has announced some rule changes for the upcoming season, and one in particular might prove important during the course of the season.
Starting this season, each team will be able to dress 17 runners and two goaltenders for each game. That’s an increase of one runner per game. The league went from 18 to 16 a few years ago, but several coaches had commented that the reduction gave them very little flexibility in terms of lineup selection - especially in the case of an injury or major penalty. This should add depth to the gamenight lineup and allow players to have a little more rest during the course of the game.
One fewer player will be scratched from the roster for each game.
In addition, the number of officials on the floor for games has been increased from two to three, plus one in the penalty box. Each team also will receive one challenge of a goal/no-goal situation during overtime, regardless of how many challenges it took during regulation time.
The Buffalo Bandits begin preparation for the upcoming season on Saturday at the KeyBank Center when they begin training camp. Buffalo will stage an open practice on Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by an autograph session and a “town hall” question-and-answer section.
