The latest Queen City Pop-Up has officially popped up.
This year's holiday edition participants include organic spice retailer Kissed by the Sun Spices, silver and gemstone jewelry maker Silver Kaleidoscope Jewelry, specialty chocolatier Whimsy Confections, artwork purveyor FilmXposed, gourmet popcorn retailer Popcorn Kernel as well as Djuana Munn Skincare, which sells all-natural hair and skin products.
The shop is located in the same space as last year, at 50 Fountain Plaza in suite 110, on the 500 block of Main Street.
Queen City Pop-Up started three years ago in the Market Arcade. Since then, it has held sessions each holiday season and each spring. The program offers entrepreneurs free, short-term retail space. Its aim is to give entrepreneurs the ability to test out their retail concept, stimulate activity in the downtown business district and attract permanent business to downtown Buffalo.
Several Queen City Pop-Up graduates have gone on to open their own businesses, crediting the pop-up with their decision to do so. The latest is Nikita Williams, who sells new and vintage jewelry and accessories at Phenominal Xpressions, 517 Main St. Pop-up veterans who went on to open permanent physical stores before her include Buffalo Adore, Rust Belt Love, Yar Mo's Muse, MMW Style Studio, Rudeboyz Artworks and Buffalo Barkery.
The program is put together by the Buffalo Urban Development Corp., Buffalo Place and Working for Downtown. This year's free space is sponsored by Ciminelli Real Estate and Key Success LLC.
Queen City Pop-Up will run through Dec. 31 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. It will have extended hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to observe Small Business Saturday.
