Shot fired through window leads to case against hunter

HARTLAND – A Ransomville man was charged with reckless endangerment Sunday after a homeowner told police that her front bedroom window was shot out by a hunter across the street, authorities said.

John E. Duxbury, 48, was also charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and discharging a weapon over a public highway, according to a news release from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called at 9:50 a.m. to a home in the 2300 block of Hosmer Road after the homeowner called to report a shot fired through a window.

The woman told deputies that the hunter fired four or five shots, one of which struck the window of the bedroom she was in at the time. No one was reported wounded.

Duxbury was released on appearance tickets and is due in Hartland Town Court on Dec. 6.
