Ruth F. Bayers, retired teacher

Sept. 15, 1918 – Nov. 10, 2016

Ruth F. Bayers, a retired teacher, died Nov. 10 at Weinberg Campus following a short illness.

She was 98.

Born Ruth Feder in Cleveland, Bayers came to Buffalo as an infant and graduated from Fosdick Masten High School. She earned a degree in education from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1940.

She was a teacher for Elma Public Schools in 1942. During World War II, she worked at Houdaille Engineering from 1942 to 1944. She also taught at West Seneca Junior High School from 1944 to 1947. And from 1947 until she retired in 1983, Mrs. Bayers taught in Buffalo Public Schools.

She was a member of Achavas Achim Synagogue, Chabad House of Buffalo, Knesset Center and Jewish Discovery Center.

Mrs. Bayers was a Jesse Ketchum recipient in seventh and eighth-grader and once in high school. She also received an honorary certificate from Yeshiva University.

Her husband Edgar H. died in 1970.

Services were held on Nov. 11 at Ahavas Sholem Cemetery.
