Driver falls to ground, charged with drunken driving

A driver who police say stumbled from his car during a traffic stop and fell to the ground during a field sobriety test faces a charge of driving while intoxicated.

The driver, identified as Dean Lapoulas, 68, of Euclid Avenue in Kenmore, also faces a misdemeanor charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance because, police say, they found crack cocaine in a cup holder of his car.

Buffalo police said they stopped the gray Chevrolet Malibu around 11 p.m. Friday because it was being driven erratically on West Ferry Street near West Avenue. LaPoulas, officers said, later registered a blood-alcohol content of .13 percent.
