No fare hike for Metro Bus and Rail in 2017-18

There will be no fare hike in 2017-18 for riders using Metro Bus and Rail.

Commissioners of the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority approved a $225.5 million budget Thursday, retaining the basic $2 fare.

The fare collected aboard Metro buses and trains accounts for only about 25 percent of authority revenues, causing a major reliance on government assistance, transit officials noted.

As a result, it is assumed in the preliminary budget that a 2 percent increase in state operating assistance equaling about $950,000 will help balance the budget, as well as expected increases in revenue from the Erie County sales and mortgage taxes.
