Our Electoral College serves useful purpose
A Nov. 14 editorial questioned the “usefulness” of the Electoral College in modern America because Hillary Clinton had more popular votes but lost the election. A few weeks ago, The News endorsed Republican control of the State Senate to provide representation for the rural minority in New York State.
This country has worked through and prospered with numerous political swings and has claimed, especially in recent history, to protect minorities from the “tyranny of the majority.” Which is it, a protection for the minority or a threat to our “faith in democracy”?
