Three pit bulls were taken by agents of the SPCA Serving Erie County on Thursday from a house at 207 Congress St. where SPCA staff also reported finding what they called dog fighting training material in the basement, a spokeswoman for the SPCA said.
Gina Browning, the spokeswoman, said a complaint about the Congress Street home was received Thursday morning and a SPCA agent was sent there. Along with Buffalo police, the SPCA took the dogs at about 2:30 p.m. at the home, she said.
The three pit bulls included two adult dogs and a puppy, according to Browning.
Inside the home, agents reported finding in the basement items allegedly used in preparing dogs for fighting, Browning said.
The three dogs were sent to the SPCA’s Tonawanda facility for examinations, Browning said.
