Despite being defeated, Clinton made us proud
It was a proud moment for me, a female Democrat, to cast my vote for the first female candidate running for the presidency. Although I am profoundly disappointed in the result, it was still my privilege to vote for Hillary Clinton. She ran a clean campaign in spite of the rancor directed at her. Within hours of the closing of the campaign, she reached out to the opponent, offering her wish for a successful reign.
President Obama also elevated the discourse in his eloquent message of hope to the incoming president. This is in stark contrast to Mitch McConnell’s hope for the Obama presidency to fail in 2008, promising to thwart any attempt by Obama (born in the United States) to succeed in any of his programs. For me, Obama’s and Clinton’s actions are the reasons why democracy cannot be crushed, and why I am a lifelong Democrat.
