Cantina 62, a Mexican-American restaurant offering breakfast and lunch, has opened in Lackawanna.
Located in the former Route 62 Diner space at 2723 South Park Ave., it’s offering tacos for breakfast and lunch, plus eggs, pancakes and huevos rancheros. The menu also includes a double cheeseburger and a turkey sub.
It’s the first restaurant from Matthew Krupp, who was last general manager of The Lodge.
Asked why he chose to open a taco restaurant, he said: “I love tacos.” Street-style Mexican tacos aren’t well represented in the area, he said.
Cantina 62 is starting out small, with tacos of braised pork, cilantro lime chicken, seasoned ground beef, bean and pan-seared cod with chipotle seasoning, he said. They can be ordered with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar and sour cream, or with shaved cabbage, radish, salsa fresca and cotija cheese.
He also expects to apply for a beer and wine license. Cantina 62 is open 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Krupp said, though he plans to expand its hours soon.
