A feel-good story about a couple of good neighbors in Lockport helping Justin Timberlake fix a flat tire has caught quite a bit of attention on Facebook.
If only it were true.
The website KY12 News circulated this hoax news story about Timberlake praising residents in Lockport, saying he was "just so impressed that people could be that friendly to pull over so quickly and offer to help a complete stranger."
Not only is the story fake, so is the "news" website. In its "About" section, the website calls itself "an entertainment website composed mostly of articles containing fantasy news or satire. ... Though some articles on ky12news.com contain actual events, none of the articles on ky12news.com should be considered true and are simply meant for entertainment purposes."
Lockport apparently isn't the only city of good neighbors. Timberlake also is said to have had a flat tire in, and praise for residents of, Nampa, Idaho; Greer, S.C.; Rosemount, Minn.; and Pasco, Wash.
It was just last April that a different hoax story surfaced about Timberlake moving to Buffalo.
“I’m just tired of the L.A. lifestyle and the fake people, honestly," Timberlake said in the story, "and I feel like, at this point in my life, I’d rather just live in a place full of real, genuine people."
It always pays to read the fine print.
