High winds expected in WNY this afternoon, evening

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Erie, Niagara, Orleans and Genesee counties starting Thursday afternoon.

The advisory goes into effect at 2 p.m. and runs through 1 a.m. Friday.

Winds of between 20 and 30 mph with gusts of up to 50 mph are expected, the weather service said. The winds may bring down small tree limbs that may cause isolate power outages.. Travel in high-profile vehicles may be difficult at times, especially in open areas, the agency said.
