Journey’s End, schools are doing a terrific job
I am a retired Buffalo teacher and am currently volunteering with Journey’s End Refugee Services as part of the School Moms Program. We provide the newly arrived children with backpacks and school supplies, transport them and their parents to their assigned school for their first day, help them fill out forms, get bus information, if applicable, and introduce them to their teachers.
I would like to commend the receiving schools, in particular, School 45 and the Newcomer Program at Lafayette Academy, for the wonderful job they are doing with this refugee population. I’ve been so impressed by the compassion, care and kindness of the staff at these schools. Their dedication and professionalism deserve recognition.
Journey’s End, the agency that sponsors the School Moms Program, also provides many other invaluable services, such as help with housing, tutoring and English language classes, legal services, interpreting, and access to goods and clothing, to name a few.
I feel so honored to be a volunteer for Journey’s End and, as a former Buffalo teacher, so proud of the amazing job the schools are doing to help this refugee population.
