May 1, 1944 – Oct. 31, 2016
Gary N. Stoldt, of Alden, who owned and operated an auto repair garage in Alden for more than 45 years, died Oct. 31 in Erie County Medical Center from complications after suffering severe burns in an accident in his yard two months ago. He was 72.
Born in Buffalo, he was 1962 graduate of Alden High School.
Mr. Stoldt learned auto repair from his grandfather, who opened Stoldt’s Service at Broadway and Two Rod Road in the 1930s. He took over the business after he graduated from high school and had generations of repeat customers. “He never had to advertise,” his wife, Mary Gwitt-Stoldt said. He closed the business and retired in 2008.
Mr. Stoldt was a member and former director of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2692, in Depew. A motorcycle enthusiast, he also had been a member of the Wyoming and Niagara Falls Harley Owners Group.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Andrea Knab; a brother, Lynn; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the Fraternal Order of Eagles clubrooms, 4569 Broadway, Depew.
