KLEIN, Edward Philip

KLEIN - Edward Philip Of So. Pasadena, FL., passed away on November 2, 2016. His wife of nearly 51 years predeceased him in 2011. Formerly of Williamsville and Buffalo, NY, they became Floridians in 1974 residing in Clearwater, FL. His German Lutheran ancestors emigrated to the United States from Alsace/Lorraine in the early 1800's locating near Buffalo due to its growth surrounding the Erie Barge Canal terminus. A graduate of Amherst Central High School, he completed a two year program in business at the Chown School prior to his joining Chevrolet-Buffalo in the personnel department. To broaden his education, he enrolled in Millard Fillmore College, the night school division of the
University of Buffalo. He took courses that appealed to him while taking part in the MFC Students Association's many functions. He served as president of MFCSA for two years prior to his obtaining a degree in business in 1963, the year that UB became part of the State University of New York at Buffalo where he also was a member of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity. Ed's subsequent moves were to Chevrolet-Cleveland as Salaried Personnel Administrator, the Red Wing Co., Fredonia, NY as Personnel Manager and back to Williamsville where he joined his life-long friend, Fred Reifsteck, in Real Estate. A downturn in the New York market resulted in their move to Clearwater where new housing was rampant. While serving as loan officer and manager with Clearwater Federal, he obtained the RE broker's license and was prepared when the S&L industry went under. All of these moves presented a variety of situations that he and Lois found challenging and rewarding. Lois, a graduate of Buffalo State College, established the "Lois Rowland Klein Piano Concert and Master Class Series." It is going into its 11th year and now includes the "Ed and Lois Klein Scholarship Fund" which presented its first scholarship in 2014. Donations may be made to the Buffalo State College Foundation, 1300 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo, NY, 14222. In appreciation for continuance of the program, Ed was awarded an Honorary Bachelor of Arts degree in Music by Dr's. Bradley Fuster and Emily Boyce. A Mason for 58 years, Ed was a member of Pinellas Daylight Lodge, Tampa Consistory and Egypt Shrine. A Presbyterian Elder, he served Garden Crest in St. Petersburg, FL., and the Church of the Bayou, in Tarpon Springs, FL. Cremation will result in joining his wife in the Niagara River where they shared many joyous occasions partying, boating, water skiing and fishing. Close relations include Ed's sister-in-law, Doris Peterson, and their relatives. Funeral arrangements by BEACH MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 301 Corey Avenue, St. Pete Beach, FL 33706, (727) 360-5577.
