Two indicted in Niagara Falls burglary where tenant was hurt

LOCKPORT - A Niagara Falls man pleaded not guilty Thursday in State Supreme Court to an indictment accusing him of taking part in a burglary at a rented home where the tenant was struck with a tire iron.

Christopher S. Beard, 44, of Niagara Avenue, is charged with first- and second-degree burglary, third-degree assault, fourth-degree grand larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. kept Beard free on $3,000 bail posted in Niagara Falls City Court.

A co-defendant, Christine M. Harbeson, 45, of Pierce Avenue, is charged with the same counts plus third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. She failed to appear in court for her arraignment Wednesday.

Tools allegedly were stolen in the May 12 burglary in the 1700 block of Ferry Avenue.
