Sandra Jean Maiwald, a hair stylist, Sunday school teacher and choir singer, died Oct. 14 in Sisters Hospital after suffering a heart attack in her Eggertsville home. She was 73.
Born Sandra Jean Littler in Buffalo, she attended South Park High School and earned an associate degree from Erie Community College.
Mrs. Maiwald worked as a hair stylist and colorist for a local Edie Adams salon for many years and continued to serve several of her customers in her home after she retired.
She had a lifelong love of music, especially classical church music. She sang with the Western New York Chorale and performed in programs at University Presbyterian Church in Buffalo.
Before joining University Presbyterian Church, she was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Buffalo, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, coordinating spiritual lessons with weekly crafts.
In recent years, she was a volunteer at the Food Pantry in University Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, Joseph V., died in 2014.
Survivors include two brothers, Richard Littler and Donald Littler; and two sisters, Linda Sauer and Terry Wetherby.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in University Presbyterian Church, 3334 Main St.
