Shawn T. Smith, 38, was arrested at his Mills Street home Sunday and accused of violently assaulting a Franklin Street woman after breaking into her apartment Sept. 13, according to a Buffalo Police arrest report.
Smith was accused of attacking the woman when she managed to confront him in her flat. He is accused of severely choking the woman and ripping out some of her hair before fleeing.
Smith was charged Sunday with felony counts of second-degree burglary and second-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing. He remained in custody at the Erie County Holding Center Tuesday night.
He was arrested on a warrant issued by Buffalo City Judge Craig D. Hannah.
