Driver charged with felony gun possession after missing red light on Elmwood

Keshaun Atwood, 25, of Hoffman Place was arrested on weapons charges after he  drove through a red light on Elmwood Avenue at Lafayette Avenue without stopping about 2:10 a.m. Sunday, police said.

After Atwood was pulled over on Auburn Avenue near Elmwood,   he opened the glove compartment. Officers said  they saw "in plain view" a .45-caliber handgun. It was loaded with eight rounds.

Atwood was charged with felony counts of second and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and failure to obey a traffic control device for not stopping at the red light. He remained in custody at the Erie County Holding Center Monday night.
