WHEATFIELD – A man was found dead in his Sunset Drive home Monday morning.
Niagara County Sheriff James R. Voutour confirmed that the man, whose name was not released, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man had made a threat to harm himself, Chief Deputy Steven Preisch said. “He was a hunter and we knew he had a lot of guns,” he said.
Officers from both the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department and State Police, as well as members of the sheriff’s Emergency Response Team who were in the area on unrelated training, responded to the call, said Voutour.
Voutour said that for officer’s safety the sheriff’s office brought in an armored vehicle to check the garage.
“After they did that they were a little more confident they could go in. We went in by hand and checked it,” said Voutour.
He said the man's body was found inside his truck, which was parked in the garage.
