As playoffs continue, get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.
What to watch for Monday
1. Class C boys soccer semifinals
First off, an apology: Randolph was mistakenly not mentioned among the Western New York unbeatens in Saturday's Homeroom Announcements.
So, the top-seeded Cardinals, who are 14-0-3 on the year, headline the Class C double-header at Pioneer against fifth-seeded Holland (6-7-3) at 7:30 p.m. Randolph relies on Ryan Shipherd (22 goals, 3 assists) to spearhead its offense, as the senior's finished or set up more than half of the team's 49 goals. Derek Toorongian (7 goals) and the Dutchmen look to score the upset.
The early game features 2-Allegany-Limestone (15-1-1) and 6-Portville (7-7-3) at 5 p.m. The Gators, who beat Portville 3-0 twice in CCAA East play, are led by Dylan Talbot's 15 goals. The Panthers are led offensively by nine-goal scorers Brandon Morrow and Matthew Weimer.
2. Class D girls soccer semifinals
The Class D playoffs get underway with a double-header at Dunkirk.
2-North Collins (11-3-1) and 3-Franklinville (1-15) start it off at 5 p.m. Emma Kron leads the Eagles offensively with 17 goals, while Shannon Brown has a team-high four goals for the Panthers.
1-Ellicottville (10-5-1) takes on 4-Pine Valley (0-16) in the nightcap at 7 p.m. Evie Cortez leads the top-seeded Eagles with 13 goals on the season, while Kayla Hohl leads the Panthers with two.
3. Girls volleyball - St. Mary's of Lancaster at Lancaster, 6 p.m.
How about this for a playoff tune-up? The No. 1 small school Lancers (30-8-2 including tournaments) will be making the two-mile drive to Lancaster High School, where the No. 2 large school Legends (12-2) await.
Lancaster's riding a six-game win streak since dropping a four-set match at No. 1 Williamsville East on Sept. 28. The Lancers have been dominating its Monsignor Martin schedule lately en route to its 13th straight league title.
4. Boys volleyball - Orchard Park at Eden, 7 p.m.
No. 4 Orchard Park (11-6) heads to No. 5 Eden (16-4) in an intriguing nonleague match before playoffs. The Quakers are coming off an impressive four-set win at Section V's Spencerport on Saturday. The Red Raiders' depth has been tested lately due to key players being taken out of the lineup due to illness, but they regrouped for a win over No. 8 Hamburg last Thursday.
5. Field hockey quarterfinals
The lone meeting of top 10 schools on the first day of field hockey playoffs features No. 8 Amherst and No. 6 Williamsville East in Class B. The fourth-seeded Flames (12-3-1) topped the fifth-seeded Tigers (10-6) at Amherst on Sept. 19 on a second-half goal by CJ McDermott. McDermott has a team-high 13 goals on the season, while Hayley Skidmore's close behind with 12. Casey Adimey's the leading scorer for Amherst with eight goals.
