Third quarter analysis: Goodwin jets past Maxwell for long touchdown

Marquise Goodwin toasted Dolphins corner Byron Maxwell for a 67-yard touchdown in the third quarter that put the Bills up by two possessions.

Running back Mike Gillislee made a great block on the play to give Tyrod Taylor time to throw, and he dropped a perfectly placed pass into Goodwin’s hands. To celebrate his touchdown, the former Olympian went to his favorite move: Reenacting a long jump.

The Dolphins closed the Bills’ lead to three points late in the quarter when Jay Ajayi’s 4-yard run capped a 10-play drive. Ryan Tannehill floated a two-point conversion pass to Jarvis Landry, who came down with the ball in the end zone before getting hammered.

Ajayi went over 100 yards rushing on the Dolphins’ first drive of the second half and was at 140 after three quarters.

Sack man: Lorenzo Alexander sacked Tannehill in the third quarter for his league-leading ninth sack of the year. That matched his career total entering this year. Alexander is 33 years old.

Whoa: Dolphins defense end Andre Branch tried to wrap up Taylor for a sack in the third quarter, but missed and appeared to grab the shirt Taylor had underneath his jersey. The shirt stretched two full yards before ripping.
