LOCKPORT - A Niagara Falls woman admitted Friday that she stole more than $20,000 from her 94-year-old mother to feed her opiate addiction.
Adrienne M. Wheeler, 62, of 63rd Street, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted third-degree grand larceny in exchange for a promise that Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon would place her on five years' probation when she is sentenced Dec. 9.
Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth R. Donatello said the money was stolen between August 2015 and March of this year. Wheeler opened credit card accounts in mother's name and pulled money from her mother's retirement accounts. Donatello said the victim didn't demand restitution, instead asking for her daughter to help her repair her credit reports.
Wheeler has been in drug rehabilitation since August and is on a waiting list for a methadone program.
