Woman injured after driving SUV into building in NT

A Lockport woman was injured after losing control of her SUV and smashing it into the side of a building in a North Tonawanda parking lot early Saturday, city police said.

Police said the accident happened at 7:40 a.m. when a woman in her 40's driving north of the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter, at 886 Niagara Falls Blvd., lost control of her vehicle. She was driving on an access road around the building when she drove her vehicle straight, rather than turning,  and crashed into the corner of a building at 960 Niagara Falls Blvd., part of the Wurlitzer Industrial Park, a multi-tenant complex at the lot’s north end.

The building was vacant office space, one of several buildings occupied by Irr Supply,  according to the North Tonawanda fire department. The crash reportedly caused significant structural damage.

The driver suffered multiple non life-threatening injuries in the crash, according to the North Tonawanda Fire Department. The woman was alone in the vehicle and no one else was injured.

Twin City Ambulance took the woman to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

The investigation continues into the accident and its cause.
