Daemen College staff members Michael Berta and Hella Jacob, members of the college’s Rhetorical Roar Toastmasters Club, each received top honors at a Toastmasters International Speech Contest. This marks the third consecutive time participants from Daemen have won a local Toastmaster contest. With these wins, they will move on to the next level to compete against winners from four other Buffalo Niagara Toastmasters clubs.
Jessica A. Meyers and Edward J. Snyder of Harter Secrest & Emery LLP, a business law firm, were selected for inclusion on the 2016 Upstate New York Rising Stars list.
Mustafa Jarrar, a computer scientist from the Birzeit University in Palestine and an international leader in computational linguistics and ontology, will join the Department of Biomedical Informatics in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo as a Fulbright scholar for the 2016-17 academic year. He will be the first Fulbright scholar in the department, which, at just three years old, is the newest department in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
SUNY Buffalo State was among 10 campuses honored by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities in this year's Excellence and Innovation Awards. The awards program honors member institutions for excellence and innovation in several major areas of campus life and leadership. Leadership in regional and economic development; student success and college completion; sustainability and sustainable development; teacher education; international education; and leadership development and diversity will be honored with these awards.
