It’s appalling to see Trump mock those with disabilities
While many of Donald Trump’s supporters, such as Congressmen Chris Collins and Tom Reed, expressed dismay at his sexist statements, none of them expressed similar revulsion when Trump openly mocked a reporter with a disability when that reporter asked him an embarrassing question. Apparently, for many of Trump’s hard-core supporters, it is wrong to engage in locker room banter in front of an open microphone, but it is OK to publicly mock the most vulnerable members of our community.
It is bad enough that the Republican Party’s goal of repealing the Affordable Care Act, reducing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and converting Medicaid into a watered-down block grant program will further put our most needy citizens at risk. Now they have embraced a candidate who makes these individuals an object of scorn and who denies their humanity.
