Buffalo pair charged with North Tonawanda home invasion

NORTH TONAWANDA - Two people invaded a Bryant Street home early Wednesday morning and were later arrested, police reported.

Adam M. Cleary and Elyse Schurkus are accused of entering a home on Bryant with a handgun and stealing cash and jewelry from a safe, North Tonawanda police said Thursday.

The robbery happened at about 9:45 a.m. and the pair were arrested on Wheatfield Street in North Tonawanda at about 3:30 p.m., Capt. Thomas E. Krantz said. Bothwere known to the victim, police said.

Cleary, 33, and Schurkus, 32, both of Sterling Street in Buffalo were charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, second-degree robbery, fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree conspiracy, according to police.

Police also charged Cleary with criminal use of a firearm. Schurkus also was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon for having an edged weapon, police said.
