Religious scholar to speak twice in Lockport

LOCKPORT - An authority on the cultural and social impact of religion on American culture, Diana Butler Bass, will speak twice in Lockport on the weekend of Nov. 5-6.

Butler Bass will give a lecture at 3 p.m. Nov. 5 in the Kenan Center's Taylor Theater, 433 Locust St., as part of its third annual Kenan Speaker Series. The next day, she will preach at the 10:30 a.m. service in First Presbyterian Church, 21 Church St.

Butler Bass, the author of nine books, has a doctorate in religious studies from Duke University and has written widely in the Christian press.

Advance $10 tickets for the Saturday lecture are on sale at kenancenter.org, or in person at the Kenan Center or First Presbyterian, or by calling the Kenan Center at 433-2617 or the church at 433-5905. The price will be $12 at the door, if any seats remain. Student prices are $5 in advance or $7 at the door.

The Sunday church service is free and open to the general public.
