Bonnies get respect, picked for 5th in A10 hoops poll

St. Bonaventure was picked to finish fifth in the 14-team Atlantic 10 in the conference’s preseason men’s basketball poll, released Tuesday. The A10’s coaches and select media members voted on the poll. It’s a show of respect for the Bonnies’ roster. While Bona finished in a three-way tie for the A10 regular-season title last year, it graduated two of its best players in the past 20 years in Marcus Posley and Dion Wright.

Bona junior guard Jay Adams was picked to the preseason first-team all-conference squad. He’s a returning first-team all-star. Joining him on the A10’s top five are Davidson’s Jack Gibbs, George Washington’s Tyler Cavanaugh, Richmond’s T.J. Cline and Dayton’s Charles Cooke.

Dayton is picked to win the league. The Flyers were 25-8 last year and 14-4 in the A10. Rhode Island finished a close second in the voting.

The poll: 1. Dayton 374 (16 first-place votes). 2. Rhode Island 370 (12 first-place). 3. VCU 340. 4. Davidson 302. 5. St. Bonaventure 246. 6. Richmond 236. 7. LaSalle 234. 8. George Washington 195. 9. St. Joseph’s 161. 10. Massachusetts 147. 11. Fordham 124. 12. George Mason 83. 13. Duquesne 73. 14. St. Louis 55.
