Former Canisius basketball player Chris Manhertz was claimed on waivers by the Carolina Panthers Monday.
Manhertz, a tight end who began his NFL career by signing a futures contract with the Bills in December 2014, was with the Saints until last week. He played in three regular season games with them this year, playing 43 snaps on offense and 25 on special teams. He was not targeted with a pass, but had four catches in the preseason.
Manhertz is the third tight end on the Panthers depth chart, behind Greg Olsen and Ed Dickson.
