Following is a weekly listing of upcoming public events for those interested in health, fitness, nutrition and family support.

Underage drinking town hall meeting. 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Hilbert College Swan Auditorium, 5200 South Park Ave., Hamburg. Event focused underage drinking prevention will include presentations by Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon and Hamburg Town Justice Carl Morgan. Good for the Neighborhood. 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Doris Jones Family Resource Building, 3001 9th St., Niagara Falls. Free pumpkins for children who attend, while supplies last. Face painting will also be available, as well as healthy trick-or-treating and a farmers’ market. Participants will be able to receive a free health screening for blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose level. Everyone who obtains a health screening at the event will receive a prize. There will also be an opportunity to earn an additional prize for having screening results in a healthy range. Participants also can bring any old or unwanted medication in the form of a pill, liquid or patches and it will be safely disposed of on site. You do not need to be an Independent Health member to attend.

BIKING, RUNNING AND WALKING

Headway of Western New York Walk, Run and Wheel 5K. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. next Saturday walk time starts at 9:30 a.m., LaSalle Park Pavilion area, Porter Avenue and AmVets Drive. Proceeds benefit Headway of WNY, an affiliate of People Inc., which supports those living with traumatic brain injuries and other disabilities.
